CMA’s Heartfelt Tribute to Vince Gill
Sarah Trahern, CEO of the CMA, offered a touching tribute to Vince and his contributions to the genre:
“Vince embodies the very best of what Country Music stands for. He’s a true trailblazer, one who gives back to the community, honors the roots of our genre, and even now, continues to share his talent with fans across the globe. As a Country Music Hall of Fame member, 18-time CMA Award winner, and former 12-time CMA Awards host, he remains a vibrant force in our industry, and we’re honored to celebrate an artist whose influence is so deeply woven into the fabric of our format.”
A Standing Ovation as Vince Accepts the Award
During the ceremony, last year’s honoree George Strait took the stage to present Vince with the award. Before handing it over, Strait highlighted Vince Gill’s decades of artistry, generosity, and service to the country music world. As Vince approached the stage, the arena rose in a heartfelt standing ovation.
In true Vince Gill fashion, he lightened the emotional tension with humor, joking:
“I’m pretty confident I’m the only one who has won this award that hasn’t smoked any weed.”
The crowd erupted in laughter, but the mood soon shifted into a moment of deep sincerity. Vince expressed gratitude to the many people who shaped his journey — his CMA family, Opry family, management team, and the loyal fans who have supported him from the very beginning.
His most touching tribute, however, was reserved for his wife, Amy Grant:
“That woman I’m married to… she is the kindest soul I’ve ever known.”
The audience responded with overwhelming warmth, moved by his authenticity and heartfelt appreciation for those closest to him.
