When Lainey Wilson was 18, she wrote a letter to Tim McGraw. She was just a girl from Franklin Parish, Louisiana — the same small town where Tim grew up, a few decades before her. He never got the letter. For over 15 years, it went unanswered. Until last year, when Tim finally found out it existed. And he decided to write back. At CMA Fest 2026, backstage at Nissan Stadium, Tim handed Lainey a thick envelope. “I wrote it as though I had gotten it then — this is what I would’ve said.” He also told her songwriter Tom Douglas had written a song inspired by her letter. Lainey fought back tears. “Mama and Deddy are not going to believe this.” Minutes later, they walked on stage together and sang “I Like It, I Love It” for thousands of fans. A song that came out in 1995 — when Lainey was 3 years old.
